How to Create Custom Spell-Check Dictionaries in Cornerstone

One of the most important factors in maintaining quality medical records – especially in a paperless practice – is ensuring that the information in your database is correct. A big part of this is ensuring that the data entered is spelled correctly. Like most computer programs, Cornerstone comes with a built in spell-checking dictionary. This dictionary, however, will not contain the names of your practice staff or certain diseases/conditions and medications. This can cause unwanted delays when spell-checking your medical records, as you continuously have to “OK” names and words that you frequently use but are not found in the spell-check dictionary. There is a solution, however. Cornerstone comes with a spell-check dictionary that you can easily alter to fit the needs of your practice. It’s a good idea to periodically review this dictionary to ensure that no misspelled words or names have been entered; if this has happened the mistakes are easily correctable. Whenever working with information of this nature it’s always a good idea to remember the old computing acronym GIGO - “Garbage In, Garbage Out”.

      1. Double-left-click “My Computer”. Double-left-click “C:\”. Double-left-click “Cstone”. Double-left-click “Spell”.

      2. Right-click “dict25.u”. Left-click “Open With”, left-click “Notepad”. Left-click “OK”.

3. Add and/or delete any names and/or words you want to have in your custom spell-check dictionary, separated by commas. When you are finished, left-click “File”, left-click “Save”.
